We Were Here Forever

Junior Programmer (Internship)

We Were Here Forever is a cooperative first-person adventure game by Total Mayhem Games, a Dutch game development company. In this game you and a friend work together to solve puzzles and work your way through an ancient castle, working on your way to escape.
I had the opportunity to contribute on this game during my internship as junior programmer, where I mostly worked with the design and tech/programming department on creating new puzzles and other game systems during it's pre-alpha stage.

We Were Here Forever
Internship Junior Programmer
Sep 2020 - Feb 2021
During my time at Total Mayhem Games I had different responsibilities and tasks, such as:

- Implementing puzzle prototypes within Unity for in-house testing, based on paper/tabletop prototypes built by the design team.
- Developing tools in Unity with the in-house codebase, to speed up prototyping various puzzles.
- Programming the first versions of overcoupling gamesystems such as the game's tutorial.
- Working with disciplines such as Art and Design, to create puzzles, and prototype new game areas.

Whilst the game was still in a pre-alpha stage, I had the opportunity to get a taste of a lot of different aspects in the game’s development process. As there was still a lot of room for experimentation at that point.

This internship was my first experience in a professional game development environment, which taught me not only how to work with other departments, but also how to contribute to a game project as an active member of a larger team (~20 colleagues).
