Harm To Table

Gameplay Programmer

‘Harm To Table’ is a applied game about food security. Produced in cooperation with the University of Utrecht and theCGIAR Food Security Program (an NGO). In this project I was responsible for delivering this game as a playable protype to our client. I was responsible for coding unique gameplay mechanics that fit the goal set by our client. This was a fun and challenging experience in which me and the game designer had to come up with mechanics that illustrated how the buying behaviour of a consumer in awestern supermarket  impacts a farm in a third world country, one producing goods for these western countries.

Graduation Project HKU
Sep 2022 - Feb 2023
During this project I took on the roles of game designer and game programmer. As we had a small team, I had to fit into different aspects of the development process. These aspects and tasks consited of:

-Creating game mechanics that fit the theme and communicate the message this applied game is being built for.
-Designing and programming this game for 'non-gamers'. Clear goals, controls and accesibility was a high priority during development.
-Testing this game with the intended targetgroup (non-gamers), at a festival organised by our client. Using this data to improve game's mechanics and feel.
-Programming a cooperative splitscreen experience.
